A viral video from Chicago’s Orville Bright Elementary shows a woman and her two children being pinned by a group of students, sparking outrage. The mother of one student involved reacted online, saying, “The whole city is looking for you.” Authorities and school officials have since taken measures to ensure safety.
In a disturbing incident that has shocked the South Deering community, a viral video captured a pregnant mother and her two children being brutally attacked by a group of young students outside Orville Bright Elementary School in Chicago on Tuesday. The footage of the family being punched, dragged and pinned against a fence as multiple children join in the assault. The video quickly went viral, sparking a community outrage. However, by Wednesday, another clip began circulating online, this time allegedly showing the mother of one of the students involved in the harassment reacting to the incident. Here's what we know so far. Let's find out more.
Disturbing video footage from the scene shows several children pummeling a mother and her son against a fence outside the school before dragging them to the ground. As the clip spread, a second video surfaced, allegedly featuring the mother of one of the students involved, reacting to her child's possible role in the beating of the pregnant mother and her two children.
In the clip, she expresses her frustration and disbelief, warning her son, “The whole city of Chicago is looking for you,” as the community’s outrage continues to grow.
As soon as the video surfaced on social media, it sparked discussions around it. One X (formerly called Twitter) user asked, "Does she take NO responsibility for her son's actions?"
"This poor child; the parents should be jailed and lose their children. Can you imagine how frightened they must be? They deserve to be punished and face consequences, but to just put him online and say, The whole city is looking for him, and I’m not helping you? What the hell? The whole thing is heartbreaking," another added.
"Imagine instead of shielding and protecting your child while holding him accountable, or offering an apology for his actions, you use the moment to expose your child to the world for clout🙄🙄🙄."
"An apology plus tangible support for the victim and family should’ve been step one. The rest is just noise if those aren’t there," one said.
"The mother's strangely calm reaction and her choice to immediately go online are deeply disturbing. This isn't how you address things; it's a failure to prioritise accountability and the victims' trauma. Justice must be served for the pregnant mother and her kids."According to CBS News, a day after the attack, crowds gathered outside Orville Bright Elementary School as online posts surfaced threatening retaliation against the children involved. In response to this, multiple police officers were stationed at the school entrance to ensure safety.
Chicago Police 7th District Council member Joseph Williams also met inside the school with the principal, the victim’s mother, and CPS officials to discuss the incident and next steps.
