RHOA’s Shamea Morton claims burns and scarring from a chemical peel, alleging negligence and lasting injuries.
The Real Housewives of Atlanta star Shamea Morton has filed a medical malpractice lawsuit in Fulton County, Georgia, claiming that a chemical peel treatment caused her second-degree burns, blistering, and permanent scarring. The defendants named in the lawsuit include Dr Jing Jing Wong Harris, M.D., her clinic, Pretty Faces Atlanta, and other associated parties. The lawsuit, filed alongside her husband, Gerald Mwangi, highlights the risks of cosmetic procedures when proper medical supervision is lacking.
Treatment gone wrong
According to the lawsuit, Morton received the chemical peel on March 13, 2024, which was performed by a third-party provider without proper supervision from Dr Harris. Morton claims that the chemical solution used was too strong and applied directly to her back and arms, causing intense pain and leaving permanent injuries.
The complaint further notes that Morton has Tinea Versicolor, a fungal skin condition that should have led to referral to a qualified dermatologist rather than receiving a chemical peel. Even without considering her pre-existing condition, Morton claims the treatment was completely inappropriate for her African-American skin, due to both the strength of the solution and the lack of proper preparation or safety measures.
Alleged negligence
Morton also alleged that Dr Harris never consulted, examined, or approved the treatment before it was performed. She claims that when she began experiencing severe pain and cried out during the procedure, Dr Harris responded by calling her “dramatic.” In addition, Morton further states that Dr Harris then applied an unknown solution from a spray bottle, which did not ease her injuries and failed to address the chemical burns.
The lawsuit highlights this sequence of events as evidence of medical negligence and failure to follow standard procedures for chemical peel protocols. Morton highlights the lasting impact, noting both physical pain and emotional distress caused by the incident.
Morton and her husband are seeking unspecified damages for the pain, suffering, and permanent scarring caused by the procedure. Her attorney described the incident as “unacceptable and inexcusable” and stated they will pursue full legal justice.
