The bride, CRPF Assistant Commandant Poonam Gupta, had earned the admiration of President Droupadi Murmu through her dedication and service. On Wednesday night, the Mother Teresa Complex at Rashtrapati Bhavan became the venue for a special wedding as CRPF officer Poonam Gupta married fellow officer Avneesh Kumar.
The couple was blessed not only by their families but also by President Droupadi Murmu, who personally attended the ceremony.
The event was an intimate affair, with close relatives and a select group of distinguished guests present.
While Rashtrapati Bhavan has been involved in wedding arrangements before, this marked a historic first—hosting the wedding of a serving officer.
In a past instance, in January 2020, President Ram Nath Kovind stepped in to assist a couple facing last-minute venue issues.
US-based bride Ashley Hall had planned to marry at a hotel in Kochi, only to find it unavailable due to security arrangements for the President's visit.
When she reached out on Twitter (now X) for help, Rashtrapati Bhavan responded, ensuring the wedding went ahead smoothly.
However, Poonam Gupta's wedding was unique, as it was the first time the esteemed residence itself served as the venue for a serving officer’s marriage.
Hailing from Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh, Poonam Gupta began her journey with the CRPF in 2018 after clearing the UPSC CAPF exam with an impressive 81st rank.
She currently serves as a Personal Security Officer (PSO) at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Her husband, Avneesh Kumar, also an Assistant Commandant in the CRPF, is currently posted in Jammu & Kashmir.
A notable moment in her career came in 2024 when she proudly led the CRPF women's contingent during the Republic Day parade.
