Gunther defends the World Heavyweight title against Goldberg in the latter’s final match at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Vince Russo weighs in on the outcome and a possible Seth Rollins cash-in twist.
Gunther is set to defend the World Heavyweight Championship against Goldberg at Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12 in what is billed as the final match of the latter’s illustrious career, ‘Da Man’, who is 58 years old , remains one of the biggest draws in the business despite the emergence of younger stars. Some feel that he may be able to pull off an upset and beat his younger rival to capture the gold. However, others feel that Gunther– the future of the company– should go over. In an exclusive interaction with Indiatimes, a veteran writer weighed in on the possible outcome of the match.
Vince Russo is one of the most popular names in the professional wrestling business. The writer, who rose to prominence in the 90s, has worked with promotions like WWE and WCW and consolidated his standing in the industry. Speaking to Indiatimes, he said that there are several ‘interesting’ behind the scenes developments that will determine the outcome of Goldberg’s match against Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event. He said that one of them is the fact that Goldberg wants Gage, his son, to be a WWE star.
“It's hard to say. There are many outside elements surrounding this match. Supposedly Goldberg's last match. Goldberg wants his son to become a WWE wrestler. A lot of interesting things going on behind the scenes that could determine the outcome,” he said.
Gage is 19 years old and shares a strong rapport with his father. He was by his side during his match against Bobby Lashley at SummerSlam a few years ago. The teenager previously stated that he wants to pursue a career in football but WWE is a ‘backup option’.
Russo also hinted at Seth Rollins possibly cashing in his Money in the Bank contract either during or on the winner of the match. ‘The Visionary’ won the briefcase, which allows him to get a championship shot anytime he wants, in June. He previously exchanged a few harsh words with Gunther on Raw.

Interestingly, Rollins may not leave as champion even if he cashes in. LA Knight, the man he faces at the event, may interfere. Additionally, there is a chance of Roman Reigns spoiling the party. ‘The OTC has been missing from action since the Raw after WrestleMania 41. Rollins and Heyman joined forces with Bron Breakker on the night to take out Reigns.
It must also be noted that Rollins earlier tried cashing in during Undisputed Champion John Cena’s bout against CM Punk at Night of Champions but failed following interference from Sami Zayn and Penta.
Saturday Night’s Main Event will see Gunther defend his World Heavyweight Championship against Goldberg, who’s set for his final bout in his hometown. Randy Orton will face Drew McIntyre in a heated grudge match. LA Knight will lock horns with Seth Rollins. Meanwhile, Solo Sikoa will defend the United States title against his brother Jimmy Uso . The event airs live from Atlanta’s State Farm Arena. It will be available on NBC and Peacock.
