According to reports, Apple is making a surprising design change by saving the high-end titanium construction for one of its next iPhone 17 variants. Surprisingly, it's not the model that most people would anticipate. The Information claims that the new iPhone 17 Air will be the only model in the range to use titanium, not the more expensive Pro models.
iPhone 17 Pro leaks: iPhone 17 Air titanium frame rumours have shaken up expectations, as leaks reveal Apple might limit the premium titanium build exclusively to the trim iPhone 17 Air, while the 17 Pro and Pro Max opt for more traditional aluminum frames.

This bold reversal not only reshapes Apple’s material hierarchy but highlights the Air model as a distinct, ultra-slim standout. The shift arrives alongside broader rumours around the iPhone 17 lineup—such as A19 chips, redesigned camera modules, and thinner bezels—fueling curiosity about how each model will differentiate itself this September.

With Apple's decision to reserve titanium for the Air variant, anticipation is mounting: could this be the iPhone that redefines premium design?

According to recent sources, aluminium will replace titanium in the Pro line in the next series, marking a significant shift in design philosophy so soon after adopting the premium metal.

Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst for Apple, clarified the development further. Kuo pointed out that titanium will only emerge on the upcoming iPhone 17 Air and is not being completely abandoned. Kuo claims that the device will have a titanium-aluminium alloy frame, which has less titanium than the Pro and Pro Max metal frames currently on the market.

This suggests a hybrid design that might save money or weight while maintaining a high-end experience. Analyst Jeff Pu has also confirmed this tendency in his most recent research note.

Pu said in an investor letter with equities research firm GF Securities that aluminium frames are anticipated for the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, according to a MacRumors report. The iPhone 17 Air is the only model in the lineup that is likely going to employ titanium.

Titanium has long been a distinguishing feature of Apple's "Pro" gadgets. That approach would be significantly altered by the next iPhone 17 Air, which is anticipated to be positioned as a lighter and more reasonably priced variant.

The decision is unexpected, according to 9to5Mac, since the iPhone 17 Air is anticipated to be less expensive than the more expensive Pro and Pro Max models, but it will have a more upscale design.

9to5Mac suggests that titanium is being utilized in the Air to assist cut weight, especially if the Pro models are switching back to stainless steel. However, 9to5Mac claims that because aluminum is lighter than titanium, the decision is a little perplexing.

iPhone 17 Pro expected price in India

The Pro version might cost about Rs 1,39,900, and the Pro Max version would cost Rs 1,64,900 to deliver. As of yet, the price has not been confirmed.
