'In Dire Situation, Any Salary Will Do': Pleads IIT-Roorkee Graduate, Amid Placement Concerns

With worries about low job placements in IITs this year, a recent graduate from IIT-Roorkee has expressed the difficult situation he's facing, a feeling likely shared by fellow students in IIT.



Balwant Singh, a 2022 computer science engineering (CSE) graduate from IIT-Roorkee, shared his plight on LinkedIn stating, "I’m in a dire situation and desperately reaching out for help. After graduating from IIT Roorkee in 2022 with a CSE degree, I’ve found myself in an unexpected struggle. The burden of supporting my family and managing mounting debts is growing heavier by the day. Despite my efforts, I haven’t been able to secure a job since January, and the stress is unbearable."


He further stated, "We’re facing financial difficulties like never before, and I’m at a point where any salary will do. I just need a chance to work, to earn, and to start clearing our debts. Despite being an alumnus of IIT Roorkee, I have not received any support from any of my peers. This post is a desperate attempt for me to get an interview, I am ready to learn and open to any roles available in the IT field."


Reports indicate that approximately 36 percent of IIT-Bombay students who registered for placements have yet to secure jobs.


Dheeraj Singh, the founder of the Global IIT Alumni Support Group, states that IIT Kanpur has a 31 percent unplaced record, with roughly 500 students unable to find employment, while 937 out of 1987 students at IIT Delhi remain jobless.


IITs aren't the only institutions grappling with placement challenges; earlier this year, both IIM Lucknow and BITS Pilani sought assistance from their global alumni networks to aid unplaced students in finding jobs.

In fact, a recent survey revealed that only 7 percent of Indian institutions achieved full placement rates.
