She captioned the post, "September is PCOS awareness month. When we have statistics like 20% Indian women have this & 70% women w PCOS go undiagnosed, we must educate more"
In the video, Namita reveals how both Anil Kapoor and Kamal Haasan's daughters', Sonam Kapoor and Shruti Haasan suffer from PCOS and both have gone on record to talk about the issue. She also emphasised the importance of timely diagnosis and said a simple pelvic exam, ultrasound and blood test are all that is needed to diagnose the condition. What is PCOS?
One of the leading causes of female infertility, PCOS is a hormonal disorder affecting the ovaries. As per Namita, some symptoms of PCOS include:
- Irregular periods
- Weight gain
- Balding scalp
- Excessive hair growth on the face and body
- Acne
Namita is an advocate of female rights and her step in sharing various female issues is not new. She often speaks about the various issues faced by the so-called weaker gender. In a recent video, she also shed more light on surrogacy to break the stigma around it and educate people.
On the occasion of Mother's Day, she participated in a discussion about IVF and egg freezing, highlighting the various options that a woman has and motherhood is not a one-size-fits-all. She emphasised that there are no right or wrong answers in this process and that motherhood is a personal choice and should be an educated decision.
While Namita is using her platform and influence to spread awareness about the many health concerns that we deal with, it is our equal responsibility to engage in healthy discussions to educate as many people as we can about such disorders to make everyone's life easier.
