On Sunday, July 27, around 1:30 pm, a Mahindra Thar allegedly tried to hit an elderly man twice by reversing the car in a hit-and-run incident near the Green Belt Park in Gandhinagar, Jammu city.
The horrific incident has been captured on the CCTV camera, which is now being circulated widely across social media, triggering a massive uproar among netizens demanding justice and strict action against the accused.
One user on X (formerly called Twitter) wrote, "I think there’s enough evidence now to say that the preferred vehicle for most psychos who are low on budget is Thar. Take this Thar driver: driving on the wrong side, he knocks down an elderly man on a scooter, and then, instead of feeling guilty, he comes back and hits him again. Still not satisfied, he gets out, hurls abuses, and drives off like nothing happened. Wish we had a policy to confiscate and scrap the rowdy vehicle and give the scrap money as compensation to the victim. This was a perfect case."
"If the road rage & increasing criminal mindset by the Drivers of Mahindra Thar continue, then very soon it will get the bad name #CriminalsSUV like the Maruti Omni, the #KidnappingVan!!,” while another compared it to a Maruti Omni, famous for being the Kidnapping Van.
The incident took place on Sunday afternoon, when Manan’s Thar (JK02DP-9594) first collided with a scooter (JK02BS-6435) near Allora Textiles, knocking the elderly rider to the ground, reports the Free Press Journal.

As per the report, the victim is currently in the ICU, reportedly with a brain haemorrhage. However, the accused fled from the scene. Meanwhile, Jammu police have registered FIR No. 163/2025 under Sections 281 and 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Additionally, Section 109 (attempt to murder) has also been charged against him.
Jammu Police also issued a statement that reads, “Following the Thar-scooty collision near Green Belt Park, Gandhi Nagar on 27.07.2025… the Thar was seized, its owner detained, & hunt is on to nab the absconding driver.”
