Shefali Jariwala, known for Kaanta Laga and Bigg Boss 13, once shared her heartfelt dream of adopting a baby girl. Though she and husband Parag Tyagi never had children, their talks about starting a family began after her reality show stint. Her wish showed the depth of her quiet, genuine compassion.
Shefali Jariwala, best known for her appearance in Kaanta Laga and Bigg Boss 13, passed away late Friday night at a hospital in Mumbai. She was just 42. Doctors at Bellevue Multispeciality Hospital declared her dead on arrival. While early reports mentioned cardiac arrest, the final cause of death is yet to be confirmed. A post-mortem has been carried out at Cooper Hospital.
Shefali Jariwala had quietly nurtured a dream close to her heart, to adopt a baby girl. Even before fame found her, Shefali often spoke about wanting to provide love and a home to a child in need.
In interviews, she had shared how the thought of adoption struck her when she was just a young girl, and how that desire stayed with her throughout her life. Her sudden passing has left many reflecting not just on her career, but on the personal battles and heartfelt plans that never got their moment.
A dream from childhood
Long before she became a familiar face in the world of TV and music videos, Shefali Jariwala had a simple dream to adopt a baby girl. She said in multiple interviews that she was just 10 or 12 years old when the idea first touched her heart. It wasn’t something she turned to because of infertility or social pressure, but something that grew inside her with love and purpose.
She once shared, “People often ask, ‘Why not have your own child?’ But this is something I’ve wanted for years. I just find the thought of giving a home to someone who needs it really beautiful.”
Shefali had been married to actor Parag Tyagi for over a decade, and during her time on Bigg Boss 13, something shifted. The separation made them think more seriously about family and their future. While she was ready to adopt, she said it was important that Parag felt the same way and eventually, he started warming up to the idea.

Bigg Boss led to family talks
Shefali had been married to actor Parag Tyagi for over a decade, and during her time on Bigg Boss 13, something shifted. The separation made them think more seriously about family and their future. While she was ready to adopt, she said it was important that Parag felt the same way and eventually, he started warming up to the idea.
His family supported them, but Shefali said her own parents needed more time to fully accept the decision. She didn’t blame them. She knew that adoption still carried a stigma in many Indian households.Legal hurdles and emotional strain
Shefali was honest about how complicated the adoption process really is. From endless paperwork to background checks, counselling, and family scrutiny, she said the path was long and emotionally exhausting.
She mentioned that even though they could have had a biological child, adoption felt more meaningful to her. “It's not about blood, it’s about love,” she had once said.
The COVID-19 pandemic further delayed their plans, leaving them emotionally drained and unsure of when things would move forward. Still, she stayed hopeful, believing the right child would eventually come into her life.
Her passing has left a deep silence, especially because she stood for something so important. She wanted to challenge stigma, redefine what family means, and offer a child the love she always had in her heart. Though her dream remained unfulfilled, Shefali Jariwala’s voice around adoption, motherhood, and compassion will always be remembered.
