Actor Jonathan Cake cheekily takes the blame for the sudden ending of And Just Like That, after his character Duncan shares a steamy night with Carrie Bradshaw. With the show unexpectedly wrapping after Season 3, fans are left wondering if Duncan’s debut was too hot to handle for the SATC universe.
And Just Like That is officially ending after Season 3, and fans are still trying to catch their breath. While showrunner Michael Patrick King insists the story has reached a “natural” stopping point, actor Jonathan Cake, who plays newcomer Duncan, has another theory, and it is absolutely hilarious.

In a cheeky Instagram post, Cake wondered aloud if his one night in bed with Sarah Jessica Parker’s iconic Carrie Bradshaw was the death blow. “Did I just kill And Just Like That?” he joked, posting a shirtless picture of himself as Duncan in bed, yes, that bed scene.

Duncan, a brand-new addition in Season 3, quickly went from grumpy neighbour to full-blown love interest for Carrie after her failed attempt at rekindling things with Aidan. Apparently, one night of passion was all it took to shut down the entire show.

Cake even poked fun at his own looks, joking about his “surprisingly small head” and wondering if something else was “a little underwhelming.” He tagged nearly the entire cast and creative team, calling the experience a “very hot minute” and thanking them for letting him be a part of it.
Sarah Jessica Parker took to Instagram herself to reflect on her 27-year journey with the character. She called Carrie her “professional heartbeat,” saying she probably loved her most of all. Showrunner King claimed the decision to end the series was mutual and planned, but fans are not buying it, especially given the show’s dwindling viewership, backlash over plot holes, and that Che Diaz drama.

From Big dying in episode one to the Che-induced identity crisis, And Just Like That was no stranger to chaos. The show tried to juggle nostalgia, new characters, and a more “woke” vibe, but it often stumbled.
The final episode airs on August 14. Whether or not Duncan truly killed it, one thing’s for sure: Carrie Bradshaw’s love life continues to leave a trail of emotional (and now, fictional) destruction.
