Jannik Sinner defeats defending champion Carlos Alcaraz to take home the Wimbledon championship in a stunning upset. The two longstanding rivals are now tied for the grand slam finals each has won against the other.
The Wimbledon Men’s Singles finals ended with an upset victory with defending champion Carlos Alcaraz unseated by his challenger, Jannik Sinner. Sinner, who also happens to be the current world number one men's player, faced off against Alcaraz in an intense four set match, eventually eking out a victory with the scorecard of 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.
Like with Iga Świątek in Women’s Singles, this victory also serves as Jannik Sinner’s maiden Wimbeldon victory, though he has won other grand slam victories in the past, including the 2024 US Open, as well as the 2024 and 2025 Australian Open.
Today’s Wimbledon championship saw Jannik Sinner gain a major win in his longstanding rivalry against Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz. The two have faced off multiple times before this, for a total of thirteen face-offs since 2021.
Out of these, there was one other grand slam final that the two fought each other for: the 2025 French Open, which Alcaraz ended up winning. With Sinner’s Wimbeldon victory, he has evened the record, with both of them having won one grand slam each when facing off against one another.
Sinner and Alcaraz’s rivalry goes beyond just grand slam victories, however, with the two also being in fierce competition for the world number one ranking. Alcaraz achieved the number one ranking first, back in 2022, but Sinner has gotten the edge in recent years, with him being the world number on at the end of 2024, as well as being the number one ranked player during 2025.
With his Wimbledon victory, Jannik Sinner has claimed his fourth grand slam title. This major career milestone comes on the heels of his 2024 US Open victory, his 2024 Australian Open victory, and his 2025 Australian Open victory. The only grand slam title Sinner has yet to claim thus far is the French Open, which Alcaraz claimed for this year.
