Stephen Colbert’s fiery monologue slamming Donald Trump after Late Show cancellation goes viral; netizens say 'He's on fire'

In a dramatic shake-up for late-night television, CBS has officially pulled the plug on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, marking the end of an era for one of America's most iconic talk shows. The cancellation has sparked a political controversy after former President Donald Trump added fuel to the fire by celebrating the show's cancellation with clear satisfaction. However, Colbert did not hold back in his response either.


On Friday, Trump took to the X (formerly called Twitter) account called Truth Social and remarked, "I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings.” This was right after Colbert broke the news on air that The Late Show is ending this year.

The post came shortly after Colbert announced on air that The Late Show would be ending this year. Responding to this, Colbert, in a monologue on Monday in the first show since the news broke, adopted a sarcastic tone as he read Trump's comment aloud.

Mocking the criticism, he said, "How dare you, sir? Would an untalented man be able to compose the following satirical witticism?” He then appeared in an on-screen frame that read Eloquence Cam before he stared directly into the camera lens and said, “Go f*** yourself.”



The f-bomb was beeped out for the broadcast, but the live studio audience seemed to clearly love it. The moment was met with thunderous applause and chants of Stephen! Stephen! Stephen!” echoing through the studio.

While the preview of the monologue was shared by The Late Show on Instagram too, with a caption reading, “Sticks and stones may break our bones, but presidential turds can never hurt us.”


As soon as the clip surfaced on social media, it quickly grabbed the attention of netizens. One user on Instagram wrote, "Unconditional love for Stephen Button."
