Rumors suggest Rockstar tested GTA 6 on the Nintendo Switch 2, but insiders caution that testing doesn’t guarantee a release. Previous port experiments, like GTA 5 on Wii U, went nowhere. While fans hope for a portable version, Rockstar has made no official announcements, leaving the Switch 2 port unconfirmed.

Amid the wait for Grand Theft Auto VI, a.k.a. GTA 6, to release, speculation over a Nintendo Switch 2 port of GTA 6 has intensified after multiple insiders shared claims that Rockstar Games has been testing the game on the platform. While some sources, like NateTheHate, emphasise that testing does not guarantee a release, others suggest that preliminary work on a port may indeed be underway. Fans are eagerly watching for confirmation. Let's find out more.

Insider clarifies that testing GTA 6 on Switch 2 doesn't mean development

According to Indy100, NateTheHate's comment highlights the distinction between testing a game on new hardware and officially developing it for release.

While Rockstar has reportedly explored whether GTA 6 could run on the Switch 2, insiders caution that such experiments are common in the industry and don’t necessarily indicate that a port is in active development.

Meanwhile, another source, Nash Weedle, who has a track record with Nintendo leaks, claimed in a translated post:

"I can CONFIRM that work is being done on a port of GTA 6 for Switch 2. I hadn't spoken much about it; I had to be prudent until now. Plus, I can comment that the game's delay is not due to this version; it seems it won't arrive at launch."

Insider warns fans not to read too much into GTA 6 Switch 2 rumours

On the other hand, Insider Reece 'Kiwi Talkz' Reilly urged caution regarding reports of GTA 6 on the Switch 2, noting that Rockstar has previously tested game ports, such as GTA 5 on Wii U, that never materialised.

He explained that testing on hardware is a common practice and shouldn't be taken as confirmation of an active project. Kiwi Talkz also suggested that Rockstar might have explored a Switch 2 port due to concerns over Xbox hardware and Microsoft's future plans, though he stressed that the source for this claim is unreliable.

As of now, there is no official word from Rockstar, leaving any potential GTA 6 Switch 2 version unconfirmed.
